Our spirits are as perfect and complete now as they will ever be. In our spirits we are as Jesus is (1 John 4:17) in every respect. But we have this treasure in an earthen vessel (2 Cor. 4:7). The effort in the Christian life is not to obtain more from God -- we already have it all in Christ. The effort is to renew our minds and resist the flesh. As the flesh is subdued, the spirit releases its life in our physical bodies and emotions.
